From the Desk of Joyce Cirasuola Spring Fling What I Know is True Winter

Winter 2006

Winter is here! Now’s the time to take stock of your inventory and your method of working! We all need to renew our way of doing certain procedures. On eyeliner you can offer a dimensional eyeliner by adding a second color to the top lid. This can be done with Peacock, Purple Sunset or Hazel Khaki and a shadow effect can be added with our new Hi’Liter pigments. They come in a variety of colors from Blu’ Moon to Plum Mist. See our color chart.

For Brows.  We can create beautiful brows with hairstrokes adding different colors in the brow for a natural look. Designing the brow with the Universal Brow pencil assures us that we will pick the right pigment for the client’s skin tone. This pencil shows different colors on each skin type. It is the best tool that we can use. Measuring the brow with the caliper is also advised to get the proper placement.

Lips can be difficult because doing a whole lip procedure can get us into trouble. My thought on doing lips is to do the liner first. This enables you to see what the healed results look like. If the color isn’t right, then you have a chance to darken it, lighten it or change the color altogether. This will save you from doing the entire lip over when the wrong color is chosen. There can be hidden blue in lips, especially with the blue-eyed blonde clients. I always tell my clients that lips are a process. When I am done with the liner I take the rest of the pigment and add it to some Vaseline to make a gloss and they put that on after using the after care. This keeps the client happy while the lip liner is healing. This method has saved me from having lip problems.

Winter is also the time when we can do inventory and set aside some of our out-dated topicals or pigments. I am still giving $9 trade in value for pigments that are sitting on your shelf not being used. Half full or full bottles can be traded in for the Kolorsource pigments. Look at your equipment and see if it is working properly. We can recondition the KP 96 and KP 1100 as well as tattoo machines. Making sure you have a good power unit and foot pedal is very important. Sometimes your equipment is not working at full power and speed but we don’t notice it because it happens gradually. Take stock of your needles also. We have a lot of great needles and sometimes we get used to using only the 3’s or 5’s. Some techs use one needle size for every procedure. Depending on the machine you’re using, we have a variety of needles that are really great for eyes, brows or make doing the lip liner & fill so easy. For the KP 96 and the Midas some of my favorites are the 4 square for eyeliner… it is the best needle for eyes that I have ever used. Of course for the brows I love my flat needles which are the 3F and the 4 Flat. They put in awesome hairstrokes and can also be used for coloring in the full brow. For the lips, I love the 5 round, 533 LT to be exact. I also find the 9 Magnum makes a wide liner when used vertically on the lip. This is a fabulous needle that puts in lots of pigment. For the digital machine I love the 4 flat for brows, the 3r or 3 outline for eyes, the 5 round for lips and the 9 magnum for the lips.

Let’s talk about the new Boca Digital. I find that using this machine has taken PMU to a different level. We are all computer, iPod and cell phone savvy & plugged in to the universe via the Internet. In PMU the latest German digital machine has forever changed the way we do PMU. A new tech learning eyebrows, eyeliner and lip liner now has more confidence. The precision and quietness of the digital gives both the client and the technician the assurance they need to
do the procedure. There is no overflow of pigment and the tech can see clearly the line they are working on, so important when doing liners. The ease of the cartridge that simply clicks in and out of the hand piece prevents needle stick and also needles can be changed easily during the
procedure(i.e. #5 for top liner and #3 for bottom liner). There is no chance of needle stick because the needle retracts when removing it from the handpiece. Cross contamination is not an issue with the handpiece or the base.

I use a plastic shower cap to cover the base… replace for each client in a second. The variable speeds and precision depth of the digital machine assures that the pigment takes whether on the eyes at a speed of 100 or the brows at 120 or the lips at 140. You'll get perfect hairstrokes every time. Lip liner can be done on a low speed also & the fill on a higher faster speed.

When I was introduced to the new digitals, I like everyone else I asked, “Why would I pay that much for a machine?! $2595! I could buy 10 of any other machine…. but I was enticed to buy one and just take it for a test drive. Have you ever driven a junk car and then get into a Mercedes and just “feel” power, smoothness and class that car has? Well that’s the feeling I got with the digital machine. It was pure class and love at first try. I knew I had turned an important corner in my PMU career. I knew this was the best and I was going to teach with it and use it because the best is what I want for my clients and students. I have never looked back and I learn new things about this machine everyday and it has put joy in doing PMU

Picture this in your mind: Crisp lines, no puddles, no stress, and working with ease in a relaxed manner. Your client is very peaceful and even may fall asleep. Put on some soft music and the aromatherapy and you will see how fabulous it is to work with the Boca Digital machine. All of my clients are amazed at the pleasurable sessions they have and also praise the work of the students. This is the PMU of the 21st Century! Bring yourself into the new wonderful world of the
digital. It has the power of a coil if you want it for body tattoo or scars & areolas and the gentleness necessary for around the eye. Dial the
depth and dial the power. No guess work.

So in closing I would like to invite all of you to April Spring Fling in Phoenix, Arizona we will cover pigments and color theory, eye shadow and using the hand tool, lips, lips, lips, small elegant body tattoos, blush, saline & salt removal and we will answer all your PMU questions and trouble-shoot some of the problems we come across in our practice.
